Book 1 · The Technologies of the Awakened Mind
Tara
The Tibetan practice for moving through fear: a method for acting while the anxiety is still in the room, not after it leaves.
About the book
Fear doesn't wait for you to feel ready. The Tibetan tradition didn't wait either.
Most books on anxiety are good at the diagnosis: what fires in the body, why the mind keeps rehearsing the worst, how a fear digs in and stays. That understanding matters, but it tends to show up late. It does very little at 2 a.m., or in the ninety seconds before a conversation you've been dreading, or in the moment a decision is due and the whole body clamps shut.
Tara takes the Buddhist figure and reads her the way the Tibetan tradition always did: as an instruction for acting in the presence of fear, not an icon to admire from a safe distance. In the iconography she is the one major figure shown with a foot already outside the meditation posture (leaning out, mid-step, about to move). That posture is the whole argument of the book. Courage here isn't the absence of fear: it's what you do with your hands and feet while the fear is still there.
Over four parts, the book walks through the architecture of anxiety, the moment of paralysis, the physical practices that ground the nervous system, and the specific mental movement that allows action while the fear is still audible.
No cure is promised and no belief is required. The method is laid out plainly enough to be tried, repeated, and judged against your own experience, which is, in the end, the only test the tradition ever asked you to run.
Who this book is for
- People carrying a specific fear that keeps postponing an important decision
- Anyone whose anxiety tends to show up in the body before the mind has even named it
- Readers tired of the “calm down first, act later” advice that never works when the adrenaline is real
- Professionals, leaders, and creators who need to operate steadily under genuine pressure
- People who want practical Buddhism without mysticism or a wall of untranslated terms
What you'll find inside
- The anatomy of the freeze response and why standard reasoning can't dismantle it in the moment
- The Tibetan view of the mind as territory: how fear colonizes attention and how to reclaim the ground
- The green posture: an embodied practice for moving before the mind finishes arguing
- The 21 forms of Tara mapped to twenty-one distinct psychological pressures
- Where Tara comes from (born from a tear) and what that says about a compassion that acts
- A five-step sequence for the precise minute fear turns into paralysis
- The mantra, translated word by word, as a precise cognitive reorientation rather than a devotional chant

Frequently asked
Do I need to be a Buddhist to read it?
No. The practice is presented as a method, in plain language, and asks you to sign up to nothing. Anything traditional is explained as it comes up, with no prior knowledge assumed.
Is this a meditation book?
Not really. There are practices, some of them contemplative, but the center of gravity is what to do the moment fear appears, including well outside any formal sitting.
What order should I read the series in?
Each volume stands alone and takes one pattern of mind. Tara is book one and a natural start for fear and anxiety, but you can begin wherever the weight is heaviest right now.
Is it on Kindle Unlimited?
Yes. Read it on Kindle Unlimited, or buy it outright on Amazon.
Is there a Portuguese edition?
Yes. The Portuguese edition is Tara: a prática viva para a vida real, available on Amazon Brazil.
